This is how it starts. I schedule a session with Dominick with one of our photographer friends. Professional photos with your loved ones. They’re essential. Right? Okay. Let’s do it.
Panic and stress set in. So many thoughts run through my head. “Did we pick a good spot that reflects us?” “What’s going to look good there?” “I like this dress, but what does Dom wear?” “I have all these clothes but nothing to wear.”
I’ve Been There
And, I don’t want my clients to feel this. Sessions with your wedding photographer are supposed to be FUN. Not stress-inducing. These sessions are a chance for you to get comfortable in front of the camera. It’s a chance to get to know me as your photographer. It allows me, as the photographer, to see how you two interact so I can authentically capture that. These little things bring so much value because now, on the wedding day, there is this extra level of comfort knowing each other and having had that experience of a camera around. It also allows me to capture you on your day most fully and honestly possible.
Chicago Engagement Session with Styling by Lauren Field Design
I wondered how I could elevate this experience for my clients. In comes Lauren Field Design. I work with my clients and Lauren Field to create a concierge experience. Before your session, I find out how you two are a couple. What do you do? How do you describe yourselves? What do you do for fun? And from there, we craft a unique session for you both as a couple and your story, creating a session individualized to you and not like everyone else who got engaged this year. Lauren and Elaine collaborate with you to style you for your session, Removing the stress of what to wear? What looks good on camera?
And we did just that for Diego and Kelsey for their fun in-home Chicago engagement session with Styling by Lauren Field Design.
Kelsey and Diego
Kelsey and Diego met pre-pandemic and spent so much time getting to know each other while at home during the lockdown in Chicago. We wanted their session to showcase two sides of their relationship by capturing them doing their favorite things for an afternoon, then transitioning to a night out on the town.
They frequently make margaritas and guacamole at home before gathering around a board game to relax. Kelsey and Diego have a sweet and fun personal style and relationship that was important to show and document. Especially while in their element before an evening out downtown.
The Look
Their look was inspired by the classic drama of Chicago along the river. Kelsey wore tone-on-tone sequins as a nod to all the shimmer found in the architecture along the river. Diego donned a modern tailored look in head-to-toe black with layers of chic texture. The Chicago skyline is incredible rain or shine. (And boy did it rain). However, the rain couldn’t stop us, and it was such a joy to capture these two in this city they call home.
