This week I am excited to share with you part one in a recurring series, Venue and Portrait Location Spotlights. I am going to be highlighting various portrait and wedding locations around the city of Chicago. Today, we are starting with the Wrigley Building portrait location.
Architecture
Originally built in 1920 as the headquarters for chewing-gum company Wrigley, the Wrigley Building has become a staple feature in downtown Chicago. I love this location for portraits because the architecture is so striking! It somehow manages to find the line between the perfect backdrop and the star of the photo!
Formality
The building itself gives off a very formal appeal. While casual portrait sessions always work, the Wrigley Building’s style and appearance allow my couples to really “up their game” so-to-speak, when it comes to their wardrobe choices. Formal portraits are truly my favorite to capture, so this location is a given for me when choosing for my clients.
City Skyline
The city surrounds the Wrigley Building. It is situated right in the heart of “The Magnificent Mile” and it is near so many incredible buildings! I love that you get the city vibe in your pictures with a totally different skyline than other big cities. Fun fact: this building is so visible to our city that Lego actually included it in the skyline of one of their cityscapes.
Photo Variety
Another reason the Wrigley Building is the perfect location for portraits is that it has MULTIPLE other locations to take photos nearby. Some options are the awning under Trump tower, the bridges, on Michigan Avenue, and many others. These locations give you great variety in your picture selection, which is a really fun way to change up your pictures.
Location, Location, Location
The location of the Wrigley Building is so great for engagement and wedding portraits. It is centrally located, which means getting there is easy on a fast-paced, time restricted day. And the light – you cannot beat the light here! Any time of day you will have the perfect lighting for great photos.
