Colvin House Wedding Editorial | Two Distinct Wedding Design at a Historic Chicago Wedding Venue

I had the pleasure of collaborating with Rachel of Savoir Fête on this stunning Colvin House wedding editorial. Colvin House is a Chicago landmark with historic roots. Together with an incredibly talented team of vendors, we created two distinct editorial design concepts that highlight just how much creative range can come to life when planners, designers, and couples are willing to think beyond the traditional wedding mold.

Colvin House Wedding Editorial

Nestled along Sheridan Road in Chicago, Colvin House is one of those venues that feels like a hidden gem. Originally designed in 1909 by George W. Maher in the Prairie Style, the home belonged to Edwin and Clara Colvin and their four children. Today, it serves as both a co-working space and an intimate event venue. It provides the perfect setting for events, with its rich architectural details like elaborate gold crown moldings and wood-paneled rooms. Its historic charm is undeniable.

Editorial Design One: Moody Maximalism

The first design concept was built around texture, color, and layers. Think: moody, rich tones like burgundy paired with patterns, layers, and textures. Atmosphere Events Group transformed the space with dramatic florals and draping. The floral arrangements featured burnt orange with pops of deep purple, and ample greenery.  There was visual interest in every corner creating a final gallery filled with detail-rich images. The darker colors worked well inside the spaces of Colvin House.

Editorial Design Two: Poppy Red Meets Classic Blue

The second concept was something completely different, pairing a bright, poppy red with classic blue. It felt fresh and modern, while also maintaining a timeless vibe. The mix of bold and classic created a playful elegance that would be perfect for couples looking to make a statement without sacrificing sophistication. The invitation suite was mainly a dusty blue color, but the rsvp card brought in the bright red hue, setting the tone for what was to come.

For this outdoor wedding scene, tablescapes featured light blue patterned linens that balanced the poppy red florals. White menus stood out on the red napkins resting at each place setting. These and many other thoughtful details brought the story to life.

The Importance of Working with A Wedding Planner

What I loved most about this editorial beyond the colors and the textures was the intention behind it. It highlighted a gorgeous, historic Chicago venue, and the indoor and outdoor spaces available. More than that, it serves as a wonderful example of why working with a talented planner and designer like Rachel of Savoir Fête is so important. Working with a planner can transform your wedding into a unique experience that feels like you.

It’s easy to pull from Pinterest trends or popular palettes, but planners and designers are able to draw inspiration from outside the wedding industry, using everything from fashion, architecture, travel, even your own family traditions to create an event that reflects who you are as people and a couple.

Both of these concepts were designed to push boundaries and reimagine what a wedding at a historic venue could look like. And that’s what every couple deserves: a wedding day that’s personal and completely unique to them.
