Romantic Summer Chicago Engagement Session at Fourth Presbyterian Church + North Avenue Beach

There’s nothing like summertime in Chicago for an engagement session, especially when you pair two iconic locations with a couple as stylish and joyful as Amy and Addison. Their romantic summer Chicago engagement session was the perfect blend of classic elegance and timeless romance, beginning at Fourth Presbyterian Church on Michigan Avenue and ending along the shoreline at North Avenue Beach.

Romantic Summer Chicago Engagement at Fourth Presbyterian Church

We began the evening at the Fourth Presbyterian Church, an architectural gem right on Michigan Avenue. Its timeless stonework and dramatic archways gave us the perfect backdrop for the first half of Amy and Addison’s session.

Amy, who has a true eye for fashion, chose a chic white fitted dress that paired beautifully with the church’s refined and classic aesthetic. Addison complemented her perfectly in a light gray suit, creating a sophisticated look that felt both timeless and personal. The combination of their outfits with the grandeur of the church set the tone for a romantic, elevated start to the session. We also grabbed a few photos of the happily engaged couple strolling the streets of downtown Chicago.

North Avenue Beach Engagement

For the second half of their engagement session, we headed to one of my favorite engagement spots in Chicago, North Avenue Beach. This is one of the most iconic Chicago locations for skyline views. Here, Amy switched into a long, flowy white dress, which is a perfect choice for a beach setting, as it caught the breeze and added movement to their photos. Addison kept the look effortlessly elegant with cream pants, a crisp white shirt, and brown shoes.

The vibe shifted to something a little more relaxed and playful, while still incredibly romantic and elegant. We captured everything from sweet candid moments to sweeping shots with the Chicago skyline in the background. Their natural connection made it easy to highlight both the fun and the tenderness of their relationship.

Their Love Story

Amy and Addison’s story began at Purdue during their freshman year, where mutual friends first introduced them. While they were more acquaintances during college, their paths crossed again after graduation when they both started working at Crowe LLP in South Bend. From there, their friendship grew into something much deeper.

Their first date was a simple but meaningful walk around Notre Dame’s campus. They describe their relationship together as adventurous, trustworthy, lighthearted, and caring. I can say that after meeting them and spending time together, these words 100% define their connection. Amy and Addison have such a sweet relationship and I loved getting to capture them together.

Addison’s thoughtful proposal to Amy began with Addison telling her that he had an afternoon tea event planned for them. Addison’s aunt had recommended this as she LOVES Chicago. On the way there, he pretended to be lost and led Amy to a garden next to Trump Tower, where he got down on one knee to propose, while his brother-in-law secretly took photos. Afterwards, they celebrated with tea and then joined their friends and family for a surprise party at the top floor of their apartment building.

Why They Chose Me

One of the things that touched me most was hearing why Amy and Addison decided to book me as their wedding photographer. They told me:

“We loved your candid photos! The biggest thing that ultimately led us to say ‘yes’ was your ability to capture the moment through camera . . . Every single individual within your gallery, you were able to capture the most genuine reactions and intimate moments. Your timing felt impeccable, beautifully capturing any emotion and no images felt awkward or unflattering.”

Hearing that means the world to me, because capturing candid, real, heartfelt moments is always my goal.

Looking Ahead to Their Wedding Day

Amy and Addison’s wedding day is sure to be as timeless and romantic as their engagement session. They’re planning an elegant celebration filled with white florals, gold and champagne accents, and lots of candlelight. What matters most to them, though, is creating a joyful atmosphere where their guests can celebrate, laugh, and have the best time together.

If their engagement session was any preview, I know their wedding day will be filled with an overflow of love, laughter, and timeless beauty
